"Mannahatta" re-imagines the ever-shifting cultural and social landscape of the city with rare permission atop new structures of its recent unprecedented building boom. The Mannahatta photographs offer a view of New York that is at once both recognizable and disorienting. Wides allows her viewers to see the city almost as a physical entity of complicated tensions. Even in our dematerialized, electronic global village, in order to connect with a place, we must still walk outside, breathe its air, soak up its light and experience its spaces and histories.
